Update of Knights frig and a prayer request

Thursday, August 28, 2014

Steve and Cathy from the Parish office, after getting word that our frig died and was stinking up the rooms, went into action and cleared out the frig of the rotting food, then the disinfected the frig.  We owe them a big thanks for taking immediate action upon learning of our issue!

Our next task is to figure out how to dispose of the dead frig, any ideas?

Also we have a lead on a frig donation, more details as I learn them.
Now for a prayer request, the following was forwarded to me:
Deacon Dick Petersen (From St. Tim's) sent this out to various ministries:
Urgent Prayers needed

Dear Friends,

Just a few minutes ago I received the following text message on my phone from Sean Malone who leads Crisis Relief International (CRI). We then spoke briefly on the phone and I assured him that we would share this urgent prayer need with all of our contacts.
"We lost the city of Queragosh (Qaraqosh). It fell to ISIS and they are beheading children systematically. This is the city we have been smuggling food too. ISIS has pushed back Peshmerga (Kurdish forces) and is within 10 minutes of where our CRI team is working. Thousands more fled into the city of Erbil last night. The UN evacuated it's staff in Erbil. Our team is unmoved and will stay. Prayer cover needed!"

Please pray sincerely for the deliverance of the people of Northern Iraq from the terrible advancement of ISIS and its extreme Islamic goals for mass conversion or death for Christians across this region.

May I plead with you not to ignore this email. Do not forward it before you have prayed through it. Then send it to as many people as possible.
Send it to friends and Christians you may know. Send it to your prayer group. Send it to your pastor and phone him/her to pray on Sunday during the service - making a special time of prayer for this. We need to stand in the gap for our fellow Christians.

Brother John Armstrong's next-door neighbor Jim Olsen passed away today, he and his wife Sharon were members of the Parish for decades he was a great man a faithful husband and father. Although he was not a Knight, he inspired John and actually taught him how to brew beer! He would greatly appreciated if the brothers would pray for him and his family tonight.

Urgent Help needed

Thursday, August 28, 2014

Last night we held a 1st Degree and welcomed two new Brothers into our council and one into St. Benedicts!

However during our prep for the degree we discovered that the refrigerator  in the Knights closet has died taking with it about $300 of pancake breakfast supplies.  The supplies can be replaced however we have challenge:

We need a Knight or a group of Knights to step forward who can coordinate the cleaning out of the refrigerator along with the removal of it.

In addition, we need a replacement, so the appeal is for a donation of a replacement, a new or used in good working order.

The first priority is the clearing out of the old refrigerator and the removal, this needs to be done as soon as possible since the food has gone to rot.  The beverages can be set aside however the food and the bad frigs needs removal.

So I am asking for a Knight  who can organize such an activity in a short period of time.  Please contact me as soon as possible if you would like to coordinate this project and or can help out.  We need to move quickly.

On the replacement side, anyone who is willing to donate a frig in good working order, please contact me.

Thank you!

Holy Hour for Persecuted Christians in Iraq

Friday August 8, 2014

Holy Hour for Persecuted Christians in Iraq
Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral in Phoenix, site of prayer event on August 22, 2014
Dear Brother Knights:

By now, you've heard about the horrible persecution of the Christians of Iraq. These are desperate times for the Church in Iraq, where ISIS terrorists seized control of Mosul June 11. A week later, they demanded that all Christians either convert to Islam, pay the "infidel" tax or die. Many Christians were killed outright.

Christians have lived on the Nineveh plain (Mosul) for 1,600 years, but now, thousands have had to flee to surrounding villages or Kurdistan. Many were stripped of money, passports, jewelry, vehicles and even their shoes at ISIS checkpoints.

On August 1, 2014 the Mar Abraham Church in Scottsdale held a candlelight vigil to focus attention on the plight of Christians who were driven from their home by the Islamic State. This event was well attended by our Brother Knights. Still, the Christians of Iraq need our continued prayer support.
Brothers, I am asking you to attend a Holy Hour on Friday, August 22, 2014 at 7:00 p.m. This will take place at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral, 6351 N. 27th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85017. Fr. Felix Shabi, pastor of the Chaldean Catholic Church of Arizona, will offer the scriptural reflection at the holy hour.

There will be a collection taken with proceeds sent to the Catholic Church in Iraq to help the persecuted Christians there. Let's pack the cathedral on August 22nd and show our brothers and sisters in Iraq that their suffering is not going unnoticed.
Fraternally yours,
Larry Becker
