Proposed re-schedule of July's monthly meeting of KofC Council 10062

Brothers-

The plan was to hold our regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Thursday, July 3rd however because of the holiday weekend coupled with the Ahwatukee celebration; "Red, White and Boom" that evening , it has been suggested we move the meeting. I would like to propose that we move the meeting to Thursday July 17th (I am out of town on July 10th).

Does that work for everyone?

There are three activities this month that need our attention:

Blood Drive                         Sunday July 13th, from 7:30 AM - 12:30PM in the parish hall

Texas Hold'em                  Saturday July 26th, from 6PM - 10PM in rooms 5&6, proceeds go to support the seminarians

Scholarship Award           This was tabled from last month's meeting for further discussion;  essentially we had three apply for the scholarship, two of the applicants are  well qualified academically                                              the third was weak academically however had strong community service around the church.   We need to decide to award 2 or 3 scholarships, so come prepared to vote at                                      the monthly meeting.

In addition to the three activities the golf committee continues to meet, if you want to participate in the planning, please look for the next meeting announcement. We are a little over two months out from the tournament, Saturday September 13th, start planning your foursome, recruit others and look for potential sponsors.  More to come on this subject.

For Fathers Day - Learn more about the father of the Knights of Columbus

Dear Brother Knight:

As we approach Father's Day, we would like to invite you to learn more about the father of the Knights of Columbus, our founder, Venerable Servant of God Father Michael McGivney. The highly acclaimed documentary Father Michael McGivney, which tells his life story, aired on public television stations around the country and is now available on DVD.

This new film is a great way to introduce others to the remarkable life of Father McGivney and the birth the Knights of Columbus. The DVD is an ideal gift for your council, parish priest or prospective Brother Knight.

You can learn more about Father McGivney, and order a copy of the DVD, by visiting www.fathermcgivney.org

Fraternally,

Knights of Columbus

A few things...

Brothers,

1)      Congratulations to our three new 2nd/3rd Degree Brother Knights who attended Sunday's exemplification ceremony: Bob Pinteric, Wayne Peterson and Brian Wilkins.
2)      Reminder that ALL 3rd degree Knights can experience the 4th Degree exemplification ceremony on Sunday June 14th here in Phoenix.  If you wish to experience the best degree in the organization, you must be signed up by Tuesday, June 10th so get in touch with me on Monday as we can try to pull this together for you.  Remember that the 4th degree is the Patriotic degree and the Visible Arm of the Knights (if they choose to get the regalia) which is not a requirement.
3)  Congratulations to your new officer team for the 2014-2015 fraternal year:
Grand Knight - Doug McCarty
Deputy GK - Dave Rak-Kinonen
Chancellor - Chris Rausch
Advocate - John Gavin
Recorder – Brian Wilkin
Treasurer - Nick Lozzi
Warden - Bob LaCroix
Inside Guard - Pete Cavallero
Outside Guard – Pete McCarty

Trustee 1st year Gary Ryan
Trustee 2nd year Antonio Rivas
Trustee 3rd year Dennis Sullivan

Financial Secretary – Bill Drummey
Lecturer – Pete Hoffman
Chaplain – TBD – Doug to talk to Fr. Chad to see what his recommendations are.

4)      My last meeting as the Grand Knight was held on Thursday, June 5th.  At the close of the meeting I shared some thoughts about my experience and I am pasting them here for those unable to attend the meeting…not that my words were so memorable, but I have been asked by a few brothers who had not been able to attend the meeting…so here it is:
"I have pondered what I would say tonight and oddly I found it difficult. Being GK of this council is much more than a title. It is a lot of work, indeed, but that challenge evolves into a labor of love.  You have honored me for the past 2 years by allowing me to be the GK of this incredible council. When I was first installed as GK, my goal was that I leave this council in as good a condition as when PGK Tom Kato passed the opportunity on to me. I believe this goal was achieved, and I hope you think so as well.  I can tell you that the weight of this challenge hits you pretty quickly as you realize that you are now the GK, but seeing this council pull together and accomplish so much year after year is an awesome experience. It is both exhilarating yet humbling to see this from the perspective of the GK.  At times, I wanted to shoot somebody, but mostly I wanted to show appreciation to most everybody. It really is hard to put my feelings into words. A simple Thank You seems so understated and inadequate, but I can't come up with anything else to say but Thank You for your support, your fraternity (incl. the humor, sarcasm and insults), your hard work, your prayers and for what I will always consider the honor of a lifetime. Now the time has come for me to pass this honor and responsibility to your newly elected Worthy GK Doug McCarty.  It is time for us all to offer him and the other newly elected officers our support. So, Thank You and may God continue to bless this council and all its charity works. And now it is time for me to do my happy dance!!!"

Several notes and prayer request needed

Brothers,

1)      Some sad news…Brother Hector Astrain has had a setback and must continue with chemo therapy.  We really need the prayer network working at full throttle for a speedy recovery for Brother Hector.
2)      General meeting set for this Thursday evening at 7:00 PM in Rms 5 & 6 as usual.  Officer elections are on the agenda making this a very key meeting for the year.  Please plan to attend.
3)      We still need 1 – 2 new insurance members to achieve "Star Council" award status.  Time is short.  This is an excellent benefit program open to Knights only.  You can get involved with as little as $100 for an annuity (new members – less than a year) or $300 for longer term members.  You do not have to make ANY additional investments or purchase any other products. A one-time investment with a guaranteed return is all you need.  However…it is worth your time to consider the other available products.
4)      ATTENTION 1st Degree Knights:  There is a 2nd / 3rd degree scheduled for Sunday June 8th at the Glendale K of C Hall located at 49th Ave and Northern.  Registration is from 9:00 to 9:30 AM.  Degree runs through about 1:30 until 2:00 PM.  I have to be there early so any car pools must be set up among candidates.  We can discuss this at the Thurs. meeting. So far 3 Brothers have expressed interest in going…would love to see a bunch more.  Council pays the registration costs for you.  Please send me an e-mail if you are planning on attending so I can let host council know as they need to plan a lunch for attendees.
