ALERT: Speak out to protect human life

Dear Brother Knights,

During this week of the 41st anniversary of the tragic Roe v. Wade decision, we are reminded of our duty as faithful citizens to stand in defense of life whenever the opportunity arises.  We have one such opportunity as Congress considers the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, H.R. 7.  This important legislation would permanently ban federal funds from being used to pay for abortions.

For more than 30 years, Congress has worked to ensure that taxpayer-funded government health care assistance, such as Medicare, Medicaid, and the Children's Health Insurance Program, do not provide funding for abortion.  This work, taking the form of bill amendments, has been very successful.  The Hyde Amendment, for example, has helped prevent the government from funding 675,000 abortions each year.  However, these amendments are not permanent law.  Passage of these amendments requires several annual actions by Congress, and, while these actions have occurred historically, it is not certain that this pattern will continue.

H.R. 7 will create in federal law a permanent and government-wide ban on funding for abortion that will not need to be renewed each year. This is a critical step in protecting the conscience rights of citizens who believe abortion to be morally wrong.

At the 131st Supreme Convention in San Antonio, we resolved to "speak out to our elected representatives about the need to enact legislation … to protect human life." We have the opportunity to send a clear message to Congress. Click here to contact your elected representative.

As always, let us ask Our Lady's intercession for our prayer that the Holy Spirit enlighten our elected officials to adopt laws that affirm the dignity of the human person from conception until natural death.

Sincerely,

Knights of Columbus

KofC Council 10062

Brothers-

We are in the second half of the fraternal year and as expected we have a full calendar, please consider volunteering for one or more of the activities.  Some of activities take very little time while others are more involved, nevertheless we can use your help!

Individual Activity Chairman, please plan your resources carefully and allocate appropriately.  If you have a set amount of resources (volunteers) needed, then convey that limit and expectations when asking help, if on the hand "more the merrier" is your need then utilize the volunteers who show up.  Nothing is worst than a volunteer who signs up, makes time out of their busy schedule to help out, only to show up and be told their not needed.

Another request is to mix up your task assignments, cross train in order to avoid "specialist".  We have found out painfully that we tend to rely on "go to people" or "knowledge keepers" only to have them move on or are unable to attend an event where that talent is needed.  Try people out at new tasks, or have mentors or mix the "line-up" so that every gets a chance at certain tasks.

Thank you for all your time and help, even if you are unable to help out at an event, just showing up for is much appreciated!

Vivat Jesus!

Doug McCarty
Deputy Grand Knight and Activities Chairman

K of C Rosary for Life & Annual Mass for Life and Baby Bottle Coin Drive

Brothers,
The sanctity of life (from Conception to natural death) is a key concepts within the Knights of Columbus and to our church.  There are three very important events currently going on or about to happen in our parish.
1)      The Respect Life Ministry is currently handling the "Baby Bottle Coin Drive" and I hope you participate and bring back a bottle or two stuffed with coins and or paper money and checks for this very worthwhile campaign.
2)      The Parish's Annual Mass for Life is scheduled for this Wednesday evening at 6:00 PM with a reception to follow…It would be great to see a strong K of C presence at this Mass (in K of C shirts) if possible.
3)      Rosary for Life – I am asking Knights to come to the Mass for Life at 5:30 PM so we can hold a special Rosary for Life before the Mass.  Again it would be great to have a strong contingent of Brothers join in this prayer campaign.

PLEASE HELP YOURSELF and our Parish Adoration Chapel

Brothers,
We are Blessed to have an Adoration Chapel open 24 hours a day, every day except Good Friday and part of Holy Saturday (until the Easter Vigil Mass is completed).  Many parishes wish they could be so blessed!!!
A good number of you are already regular Adorers – God is Blessing YOU for your devotion.  But I include you regulars in this e-mail as well.
We have 3 opened slots that can be challenging to fill.  They are Saturday evening at 7:00 PM, 10:00 PM and 11:00 PM.   I am asking all Knights to search your Saturday night life and see if you can make a regular date with the Lord in the Adoration Chapel.  Perhaps we can arrange is so you only cover once or twice a month (if enough brothers volunteer).
Please contact Brother Dave Grattan at (480) 460-4134 if you can make it a date with Our Lord!  We really need your help and commitment.

Driving event - changes to plans and dates

Brothers,
It wouldn't be our annual driving event if there were not hiccups and changes.  Originally we were going to be driving through this Friday.  That has been canceled, but we will need to be driving Mon, Tues (definite) and possibly Wed next week (10/20, 10/21 & 10/22).  Please contact Pete Cavallero at (480) 238-3026 if you can drive on any or all of those new dates.  We plan to leave the church parking lot at 9:00 on Mon and Tues and will be driving in N. Phx and Scottsdale most of the day.  We will have about 80 new Mercedes vehicles to move and need your help. Lunch is provided and we usually have donuts and coffee in room 5 – at 8:30ish.
If you have never participated, it is one of our favorite and most enjoyable events – lots of camaraderie and you get to drive brand new Mercedes too.  Open to all (Knights, spouses, family and friends) above the age of 18 – please bring a copy of your current, valid drivers license in order to drive these cars.
