Merry and Blessed Christmas to you and your loved ones!!!

Brothers,
Warm wishes for a blessed Christmas day and joyous New Year from the Sullivan Family (Elaine, Theresa and me).

I wish to share with you one of my favorite Christmas stories:

               "One Solitary Life"
"He Was born in an obscure village.
He worked in a carpenter shop until He was thirty.
He then became an itinerant preacher.
He never held an office.
He never had a family or owned a house.
He didn't go to college.
He had no credentials but himself…

Twenty centuries have come and gone,
And today He is the central figure of the human race.
All the armies that ever marched, and all the navies that ever sailed,
All the parliaments that ever sat, and all the kings that ever reigned
Have not effected the life of man on this earth as much as that…
ONE SOLITARY LIFE."

Merry Christmas to you and yours!!!

updates and changes

Brothers-

A reminder:

Tonight we will be holding a first degree at 7PM (candidates to be there by 6:30PM) in rooms 5&6, all of you are welcome to come an observe!

Please make note, there will not be a Planning meeting tonight nor this month.

Also, the next general council meeting is Thursday January 9th not the 2nd.  (John, this conflicts with the normally scheduled Squires meeting, were you planning on having one then, if so can we make an accommodation?)

Vivat Jesus!

Pope Francis Documentary

Dear Brother Knight:

Pope Francis has captured the imagination of the world. His is the most searched-for name on the internet. He is the most talked about person on Facebook. And he's TIME's Person of the Year.

But who is Pope Francis? Who is Jorge Mario Bergoglio?

As you know, the Knights of Columbus has worked to bring Pope Francis and his message to the world in a variety of ways. Now, our documentary film on his life is available on DVD.

Francis: The Pope From the New World is available at Amazon.com. The hour-long film traces the remarkable rise of our new Holy Father and features interviews from around the world, with close friends, fellow priests, co-workers, his biographer and the poor of Buenos Aires.

Whether you want to give this as a Christmas gift or order it for your personal or family collection, this documentary will help those who watch it to learn even more about our pope and how to answer his call to increase our faith in service to God and neighbor.

Any profits made by K of C from this film will be donated to Pope Francis.

Sincerely,

Knights of Columbus

Help Needed

Brothers,

We have a few Knights from our council already signed up for this Thursday 12/12 (1-6pm shift) for the Habitat for Humanity build in Scottsdale – Thank You!  There is still a need for nearly 30 more volunteers on this day to keep the project on schedule. I believe the goal is to have the families in their homes by Christmas!  If by chance you can spare 6 ½ hours (5hrs working and 90 minute drive -round trip) this Thursday I understand this counts as "Bonus Points" when St. Peter meets us at the pearly gates.

Habitat for Humanity and Scottsdale Blitz Project

Brothers,

The Season of Giving has just begun!  What better way to prepare ourselves for the birth of Christ by helping those less fortunate.  Habitat of Humanity needs help to construct low income housing in Scottsdale.  No construction skills necessary (but helpful) as there are a variety of jobs.   If you, your family (over 18 years of age) or friends would like to volunteer, the council is focusing on the following available days below.  There are a few other days & times, though we would like to participate as a group as much as possible.

Thursday, 12/5 from 1-6pm (need 14 volunteers)  . . . done in time for our Council meeting
Friday, 12/6 from 1-6pm (need 18 volunteers)  . . . done in time for happy hour
Thursday, 12/12 from 1-6pm (need 33 volunteers)
WHERE: The address of this project is 7220 & 7224 E Belleview St, Scottsdale, AZ.  The major crossroads are Scottsdale Rd and McDowell Rd.
Kindly contact me ASAP at bdrummey@cox.net or 480-460-2721.  You can sign up yourself through the link below, yet please verify with me as we would like to carpool from church.  More questions?  Just give me a call.

Merry Christmas!

Tom-

Yes, I am taking care of the beverages for both the Memorial Mass and the Degree,  however when I brought the subject up in regards to beer, Dennis said we would have to give it away albeit we could have a donation jar,  nevertheless because of the tight restriction on what we can charge and probably only breakeven he did not want to incur more expense.

I am going to pickup soda and h2o.

I am going to send out a volunteer request email, I know some have already i.e. Nick, Richard, you, etc… however do you need help  in your area specifically?

Were you taking care of beverages for this weekend for the degree?

Was just thinking: should we reconsider beer?

Just a thought.

Recruiting Weekend for the Knights

Brothers,
This weekend, Nov 16 – 17 after all of the Masses, we will be holding our "Ministry" weekend to recruit/introduce prospective members to what the K of C does.  We need help after all of the Masses to direct prospective members and to answer questions.  To assist with this process, we will have numerous signs with a "Did You Know…?" theme, banners and a new three ring binder with pictures and verbiage regarding our many and varied events, hours of service and charity $$$ donations.
Please help – more importantly – bring us a prospect or 3…perhaps a neighbor, a friend, a relative or the gentleman sitting next to you in church.   We need 24 new members in the next 6 months to meet our state goal.  WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

Loss of a long time Brother/Sir Knight

Brothers,
The funeral arrangements have been finalized for Brother/Sir Knight John Maloney who passed into God's care this past Thursday.   As I am not as good with words as FN Bob LaCroix, I will quote him. "John was a sweet, kind, gentle man who was a friend to all who had the chance to know him.  He was a Life Member of the Knights of Columbus , a founding member of Council 10062 and a Sir Knight for more than 53 years. I'm sure John will enter into God's Heavenly Kingdom with the same quiet smile with which he always entered the Knights meetings.
The viewing will be on Wednesday November from 5 – 8 PM. Rosary will be at 7:00PM at Carr Tenney Funeral Home at 2621 S. Rural Rd (NE corner of Rural and Alameda), Tempe, AZ.
The funeral Mass will be at St. Benedict's at 2:00 PM on Thursday 11/14.  There will be a chalice ceremony befitting a Sir Knight's passing at the family's request.  If you can arrange to be at one or other of these events to show our love and respect for our Brother, please plan to be.

Second Airing of New Pope Francis Documentary

Dear Brother Knight,

This coming Sunday, Nov. 3, the Knights of Columbus-produced documentary on Pope Francis will again be aired on national television. It will be broadcast on CNBC at 6-7 p.m. Eastern (3-4 p.m. Pacific).

The film, Francis: The Pope from the New World, features interviews with Pope Francis' friends and associates in Argentina, as well as with American commentators such as Supreme Knight Carl Anderson and members of the hierarchy, including Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Cardinal Sean O'Malley, Archbishop Charles Chaput and Archbishop José Gomez.

The world has been fascinated by our new Holy Father, but many people still do not fully know the man who is now our pope. This film introduces viewers to Jorge Mario Bergoglio — the man who became Pope Francis — and his life story, from his childhood and patronage of his local soccer team to his vocation and time as a priest, bishop and then cardinal archbishop of Buenos Aires.

As Knights, standing in solidarity with our Holy Father, it is not only important that we know him but that we help others to know him, and that we support him in the work of the New Evangelization. If we follow Pope Francis' charitable witness, we have the opportunity to change the world.

If you have not already done so, please make the time to watch this inspiring documentary and invite others you know to also view it.

For more information on the film, visit PopeFrancisDocumentary.com.

BIG THANKS

A HUGE THANK YOU to my Brother Knights, to St. Gerard Circle, to RE Youth Group, to the Altar Guild, to Ladies Sodality and to any who donated time, talent, and treasure to make our first parish Oktoberfest FAMILY Festival a big success!!!  Although the finances have yet to be settled, it looks like we did make a few thousand above expenses to contribute to the parish parking lot project.

I would be greatly remiss if I did not thank a few who went well above the call of duty in terms of their contributions (I failed to publicly thank you last night in front of the group and for that I also owe an apology). So a special THANK YOU to the Dave Rak-Kinonen family, George, Myra and Robert Gonzales, Pete Hofmann, Hans and Franz (also known as John Armstrong and Greg Miztka), Jim Hunt, Tom Kato, Bill Steinkemper, Rob and Lisa Abeln, Dennis and Judy Wagner, Bill Drummey, Richard and Edna Armanini, Nick Lozzi, Jim McGrath, Bernis and Carol Hageman, Maureen Pass, Dee Gordon, Bonnie Vance, Maria Tari, Antonio and Andrew Rivas, Bob and Eileen LaCroix, Julie Carlberg, Ellen Abbadessa, Doug McCarty, Wayne Conway, and or course Fr. Hormann and Fr. Rafael.  I am sure my addled mind missed a number of heros but I wish you all a great thank you.
God has bless Corpus Christi with a great body of talent, vested in some very wonderful people.

May God Bless you as we go into the Holiday Season and always!!!
